2017 IGA Men’s Amateur Championship: A Note from Mike Rapp
The IGA has received numerous inquiries about the Men’s Idaho State Amateur to be held at Falcon Crest Golf Club. Please know that we are looking forward conducting our premier competition at Falcon Crest. See the note below from Mike Rapp, General Manager/Superintendent, Falcon Crest Golf Club!
As many of you know, or have seen first-hand, the greens at Falcon Crest Golf Club did not winter well. We had an ice layer cover the entire surface of our greens and most of the annual bluegrass on our greens did not survive, although the bentgrass came out of it healthy. Unfortunately this terrible winter was then followed by a very cool spring and have delayed being able to get our greens healed.
Fortunately I have a great maintenance crew and over the past 2 weeks we have replaced 7-8 thousand hole sized plugs and have done some sod work as well. This paired with weekly topdressing and warmer weather the greens have made tremendous progress. By the first week in June we should be back to 100%.
Talking with Genger I know many are concerned about the shape of the greens by the time the Idaho State Amateur will be played here in late June. If we have our normal June weather, and what is shaping up to be a great end to May, the greens will be great long before that week. We look forward to hosting this great event and hope to see you here.
