2017 IGA Tournament of Champions Finish With Tough Conditions

The 2017 IGA Tournament of Champions was conducted at the beautiful venue, Blue Lakes Country Club in Twin Falls, Idaho. Four over night leaders were identified in each division, and they were no strangers to that position. Alan Barnhardt of Ketchum led the Men’s division by one stroke over Carson Barry of Eagle, Carl Sklavos of Twin Falls had the home course advantage, and held a lead of five strokes in the Senior Men’s division. Tayllore Ward of Twin Falls, shot three over par to lead the Women’s division by four strokes over Abby Black, and Shawna Ianson of Boise had a one stroke lead in the Senior Women’s division.

The second round of the Tournament of Champions consisted of high winds, and was a true test mentally and physically. Low score of the day came from Dan Pickens from the Senior Men’s division with a (-1), 71, which happened to be the only under par round from any division. The under par round was not enough to take the trophy home, as Blue Lakes member, Carl Sklavos of Twin Falls finished at (+2) for the day and even par for the 36-hole championship. This was Carl’s first time winning the Tournament of Champions.

Carson Barry of Eagle, had it going early on in the round making the turn at (-2), 34 , but had a few difficulties on his back side to finish the day at (+2) and the tournament at even par 144. Noel Smith from Boise finished three strokes behind to place second overall in the Men’s Division.

In the Senior Women’s division, it was a close call with three women placing one, two, three within a stroke among one another. Shawna Ianson of Boise defended her Tournament of Champions title, by outplaying Kareen Markle of Meridian by one. Ianson won with a 164, Markle second place at 165, and Georgia Hutchinson of Ketchum shot 166 for third place.

First time winner in the Women’s division, Tayllore Ward, had a great championship with rounds of 75-79 to claim her trophy. Ward of Twin Falls, beat Abby Black of Meridian by two strokes and had four birdies to help offset a few bumps in the road. Tayllore is finishing her senior year at Twin Falls High School.
