2017 Men’s and Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

August 1, 2017

CALDWELL- The field is set for the Men’s and Women’s Mid-Amateur Championships, which will begin Friday, August 4th and champions will claim the titles on Sunday, August 6th. The 54-hole competition will bring Idaho’s best golfers, twenty-five years and older, to TimberStone Golf Course.

On the Men’s side, Daniel Stewart earned a three shot victory at Crane Creek Country Club in the 2016 Championship and is returning this year to defend his title. Stewart will have stiff competition as five of the top six placers in last year’s championship are returning to compete for the title. Notably, Jesse Hibler placed fourth in the 2016 Championship, Hibler also competed closely for the 2017 Idaho Men’s Amateur Championship in June, finishing third. Steve Hartnett is the only other past champion in the event, Hartnett won in 2015.

The Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship also has a very strong field for this year’s playing. The tournament, which was first played in 2011, will have all of its past champions in the field. Kareen Markle has captured three titles winning in 2011, 2013 and 2014. Shawna Ianson earned the 2012 championship. But, most recently, the last two Championships have been won by Karen Darrington.

In 2013, the IGA added three events to its schedule that adopt the TEE IT FORWARD philosophy. These events will be the IGA “Classic” Tournaments and will be played parallel to an IGA State Championship. The IGA Men’s Mid-Am Classic (minimum Handicap Index 7.5) played with the IGA Men’s Mid-Amateur State Championship. The IGA’s goal in offering the Classic is to provide opportunities for golfers who typically do not compete in IGA State Championship events to have some fun and experience an IGA competition.
