8 Qualify for IMG World Junior Championship

CALDWELL- 85 girls and boys ages 13 through 18 teed off at TimberStone Golf Course in hopes of winning. But, this tournament had even more incentive with the top two individuals in each age division qualifying for the IMG World Championship at Torrey Pines Golf Course in San Diego, California. The IMG World Championship has individuals representing 42 states and 56 countries across the globe.

The Girls 13-14 division Leighton Shosted fired a 78 securing the win. Following Shosted by just one stroke was Grace Singpraseuth. Shosted and Singpraseuth’s performances qualify them for the World Championship in San Diego, but in the circumstance of a withdrawal, third place, Christine Cho will serve as the alternate. In the Boys 13-14 division Quin Haigwood produced an 80, which was enough for the victory. Blake Helms shot 82 locking down second, with Derek Lekkerkerk shooting 84 to become the alternate.

Makena Rauch was able to earn the Girls 15-18 division title by shooting an even par 72. Trailing Rauch Payton Fehringer and Kaitlynn Deeble both shooting 74 requiring a playoff to determine the automatic qualifier and the alternate. The playoff lasted three holes with Fehringer outlasting Deeble and securing her ticket to the World Junior Championships. In the Boys 15-18 division the low score of the day came from Daniel Gaspar and Brock Whitaker both tallying a 69. Jack Curran finished just one stroke behind Whitaker and Gasper placing him as the alternate.
