Are You the Next Volunteer?
Have you ever thought about giving back to the game but weren’t sure how? The Idaho Golf Association provides plenty of opportunities to give back through Championships, Junior Golf, and Course Rating. If you are interested in Championship work or Junior Golf, the volunteer meeting would be a perfect chance to see if this would be the right fit for you.
The IGA is conducting the annual volunteer meeting Thursday, April 28 at BanBury Golf Course in the Harbottle Room. From 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. we will review the general areas/jobs in which you can provide service. There will be an opportunity to sign-up for various volunteer jobs throughout the season.
After the volunteer meeting, Dr. Fahleson will conduct a Rules of Golf seminar which will help you navigate your way around the Rules of Golf book. We will spend time on the most significant Rules in which one has to deal with on a regular basis. 2016 is a Rules change year, so time will be spent on those changes and any clarification one might need. This seminar is a great way to clear up all the confusion that you and your buddies have argued about in the past. Don’t assume you know the Rules of Golf, educate yourself and you might save yourself a few strokes out on the golf course.
During the Rules of Golf seminar there will be an Officiating 101 session from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. that will help the on course officials with the do’s and don’ts of officiating. This is a good refresher for anyone who is actively involved with the Rules of Golf. Just as a reminder, you’re there to help the player and be aware of his or her position on the course. The last thing officials want to do is disrupt a player by following along the group hole-by-hole or park their golf cart too close to the putting green. It’s important to be aware of your surroundings.
