PGA Tour Caddie to USGA Mid-Amateur Medalist
Geno Bonnalie of Lewiston, ID knew he would be traveling from North Idaho to Boise this week for the Web.com Tour event (Albertson’s Boise Open) at Hillcrest Country Club . His plan was to caddie at the Boise Open for his friend and tour player Joel Dahmen, Clarkston, WA. Geno saw on the amateur schedule that a U.S. Mid-Amateur Qualifier was being held this week at Jug Mountain Ranch in McCall. So he figured, why not enter and play in the qualifier on the way to Boise?
Bonnalie and Dahmen switched player/caddie rolls on Sunday and the chemistry clicked. Bonnalie shot a one under par 71 to best the field of 23 and claim the qualifying spot into the USGA Championship. This will be Bonnalie’s first time competing in a USGA Championship. Reid Hatley, Hayden Lake and Sean Packer, Seattle, Washington tied for the 1st Alternate position by posting even par 72’s. Sean Packer won the play-off (one hole) to earn the 1st Alternate position.
The U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship is open to amateur golfers who have reached their twenty-fifth birthday by the first day of the Championship proper and have a Handicap Index for men not exceeding 3.4 under the USGA Handicap System.
The 37th U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship, conducted by the United States Golf Association will be held at Capital City Club in Atlanta, Georgia; October 7 – 12, 2017. Click here for complete results.
