2017 IGA Four-Ball Championships End With Suspenseful Outcomes

Shadow Valley Golf Course hosted the 2017 IGA Four-Ball Championship with a field of 198 players. After round one, the side of  Christopher Chatham and Clinton Beers came out of the First Flight, to lead the Championship with an astonishing round of nine under par, 63. Two strokes back at seven under par, 65, was the side of Phillip Kennedy and Hunter Ostrom. 

dsc_0161On the final day, Ostrom and Kennedy playing with Chatham and Beers made a move on the front nine to take the lead by one stroke at the turn. They battled Chatham / Beers over the last nine holes with balky putters but finished with a two-day total of 131, one stroke ahead of Chatham / Beers (132). In the penultimate group Joe Huarte and Lucio Morales quietly put together a round of 65 to finish at 131 for the two-day total and a tie for the lead. On the first playoff  hole Hunter Ostrom, hit his approach shot on the par-4 10th hole to 10 feet and drained the putt for a birdie to claim the Championship.

The Women’s Championship had a tight finish with Abby Black and partner Tara Finigan completing the first round at a five under par, 67. Trailing in second place were Shawna Ianson and Katie Neely at four under par 68. Defending champions, Kareen Markle and Kinsley Bonifilio ran into trouble on hole number two where they had to take a double bogey and finished the first round at one under par, 71.

In the final round, Finigan and Black were able to maintain consistency, as Ianson and Neely struggled and the Markle / Bonifilio side attempted to make a run. But it wasn’t enough Finigan and Black finished with a two-day total of 137, as Markle and Bonifilio posted a 141.

In the Men’s Senior Division, Dan Pickens and Jay Sutton were tied with Carl Funk and Calvin Fillmore after round one with a first round total of 66. Defending Champions Joel Hickman and Mike Sadler were one back at 67. Joe Malay and Bret Rupert had the low score in the final round at 65 but fell short, finishing with a two-day total of 138. Pickens and Sutton posted a four under par 68 (134) to win the Senior Four-Ball Championship by one stroke over Hickman and Sadler/ Calvin Fillmore and Carl Funk (135).
