Skyles Qualifies for U.S. Senior Amateur
NAMPA- Eleven players took to Ridgecrest Golf Course, all bidding for the opportunity to play in the U.S. Senior Amateur Championship.
The USGA Championship is to be held at The Minikahda Club in Minnesota August 21 through August 31.
At the end of the day Rod Skyles, of Eagle, was able to outlast the rest of the field. Skyles was a member of the victorious Idaho PNGA Cup team and also qualified for the U.S. Senior Amateur Championship in 2015 when it was hosted in Hidden Creek Golf Club in New Jersey.
Skyles steady round of one-over kept him one shot clear of Joel Hickman and Carl Sklavos. Hickman and Sklavos headed to extra holes to determine the first and second alternate. After both tallying pars on the first hole of the playoff the two headed to the second. At the second, Hickman’s approach shot flew out of bounds and conceded the hole and the first alternate spot to Sklavos.
